A furnace makes it a lot easier for you to get through the harsh winter months. That is why if a furnace stops working, then it can create a major inconvenience. There are several things that can cause a furnace to stop working.
It is important to change your air filter on a regular basis. Most filters will need to be changed at least once a month. The air filter keeps dust from building up inside of your furnace. If the air filter is dirty, then your furnace will not work as efficiently. Your furnace will eventually stop working completely.
If your furnace is not working properly, then the first thing that you will need to do is check the filter. In many cases, changing the air filter will correct this problem.
Thermostat Issues
The problem may not be caused the furnace itself. The issue may be caused by the thermostat. Make sure that your thermostat is set to heat instead of cool. You should also make sure that the thermostat batteries are working properly. If the batteries in the thermostat die, then your furnace will not work.
Circuit Breaker Tripped
Your circuit breaker can trip and cause your furnace to turn off. Circuit breakers usually trip when the flow of electricity is cut off. You may have to reset your circuit breaker. You should also make sure that the switch that controls your furnace is turned on.
Air Duct Problem
The air ducts are one of the most important parts of your furnace. They are responsible for delivering the ventilated air to the rooms. If there is a problem with your air ducts, then your furnace probably will not work properly. For example, the air ducts may be leaking or blocked.
Belt Problems
If your furnace is making a high-pitched noise, then the belt may be causing this problem. The belt may need to be lubricated. It may also be worn out and need to be replaced. Blower Fan Problem
You can determine whether your fan has a blower problem by switching your thermostat to fan only. If you can hear the fan, then the blower fan is not causing the problem. The blower fan is probably the culprit if you cannot hear the fan.
